In practice in Nevada County since 1981, Ed McSweeney applies his tax accounting and auditing talents to individual clients, proprietorships, partnerships, corporations, and both manufacturing and retail businesses. His expertise extends to business valuations for the purposes of buying and selling a business, marriage dissolution, and estate planning. He also maintains a focus on special procedure management engagements for business clients.
Ed's earlier professional experience includes ten years of auditing work for the Defense Contract Audit Agency, and six years with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in Palo Alto. Immediately prior to moving to Nevada County in 1981, he served as EPRI's director of finance/treasurer; managing a staff of 50 employees.
Ed earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa in 1965, became a certified public accountant in 1976, and received an accreditation in business valuations from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in 1998. He is a past instructor in accounting and taxation at Sierra College, as well as a member of the AICPA and the California Society of CPAS.
Actively involved in a diversity of professional and community organizations, he currently serves as Treasurer of the 49er Breakfast Rotary Club. He is a 2 term President of child advocates of Nevada County, past director of FREED, the Nevada County Community Workshop, and Nevada City Little League. He formerly held the title of chair of the Nevada County Discussion Group, Sacramento Chapter, of the California Society of CPAs. Additional past memberships include Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Finance Committee, Nevada County Housing Development Council, and Gold Country Lions Club.
